Senior System Engineer for Big Data Platforms
What you achieve
You join an interdisciplinary DevOps team of engineers, developers, and data scientists. Together, we develop and run the in-house Big Data monitoring and anomaly detection platform. Thanks to us, the service teams get the real-time insights they need to make Swisscom the leading Telco and IT provider in Switzerland.
You are always looking for opportunities to automate daily operations and increase the reliability of our systems. Leveraging your creativity, you increase the resilience of data processing pipelines and keep the uptime of our Druid.io cluster at record levels. Your code enhances our platform with state-of-the-art security, multitenancy, and self-service capabilities. Improving the CI/CD of our OSS tools and our own software products is part of your routine. "Polyglot" is how you make use of current technologies and keep the operations footprint low. In collaboration with your team, you optimize the performance and reliability of our microservices.
Why you succeed
- Bachelor's or Master's degree (ETH/Uni/UAS) in computer science or a similar field
- Strong Linux system administration skills, excellent knowledge of operating and tweaking OSS stacks
- Excellent skills in continuous integration and delivery, automation, and scripting (Jenkins, Ansible, Bash, Python, Git)
- Good knowledge of database operations, preferably SQL (MySQL) and NoSql (Druid.io), monitoring and performance tuning of software applications and data pipelines (Grafana, ELK, Splunk)
- Hands-on experience with microservices architectures, REST, Docker, Kubernetes
- Experience with Kafka, Yarn/HDFS is a plus
- Willing to be on call
- Pragmatic, proactive, and solution-oriented personality
- Very good English, German or French a plus
