In this position you will utilize your extensive skills and technical expertise to perform reliability analysis and test to benchmark your findings, documenting your results and participate in cost reduction and coordination with other technical teams within our Power Protection business.Reporting to R&D Hardware Chapter Lead, based in Quartino Switzerland, you will lead system level reliability initiatives related to ABB's Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS) products.

Your responsibilities

• Perform reliability analyses by reviewing electronic components (e.g. IGBT, ac/dc capacitors, fans), assemblies, and subsystems to identify failure modes, and their causes and effects.
• Support Design & Development Engineers as a critical partner to identify risk through tools such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Physics of Failure Methodologies, stress analysis, and Analysis + Test Data Reviews in R&D, and coordinate mitigation action plans to proactively lead the Design Reliability Effort for power protection products.
• Lead reliability analysis, testing programs and provide specifications for fabrication, and other shop/lab support required for a robust reliability program.
• Support and review system block diagrams, interface control documents, and electrical schematics for compliance, redundancy, and accuracy against requirements and concept of operations.
• Perform ongoing data analysis utilizing statistical methods and data analysis tools to identify patterns and trends related to reliability and performance.
• Lead and drive root cause analysis and corrective action for issues found during R&D and Qualification testing alongside the Development, Quality and Test Engineering Teams.
• Design effective reliability test routines for burn-in and screening using an in-house facility and in collaboration with external partners as necessary.
• Participating in meetings to discuss details of failures and failure trending

Your background

• Master's or Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM), as well as more than 5 years of relevant Engineering experience.
• Must have experience working with electrical systems or demonstrate the aptitude to learn complex power electronic systems.
• Must have a strong statistical analysis background.
• Experience with reliability analysis, failure investigations, and/or root cause/corrective action (RCCA)
• Experience with reliability accelerated testing such as HALT (Highly Accelerated Life Testing), HASS (Highly Accelerated Stress Screening), Environmental Testing, and functional test experience preferred.
• Experience setting up the Reliability Engineering initial framework for a product and Design for Reliability (DfR) strategies a plus.
• Experience selecting capacitors, fans, IGBTs, semiconductors, and other electronic components a plus.
• Reliability Certification such as American Society for Quality (ASQ) or Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) isa plus
• Fluent in English, spoken and written
